Banff - A Study of Texture
When I walk through the woods with a camera, I'm almost always captivated by all the different textures. I usually shoot like crazy but when I get home the hodgepodge of smooth, bristly, furry and slick do not often present well and my masterpiece is more like a jumbled mess.
During my whirlwind tour of Western North America, I got to spend a few hours in Banff National Park in Alberta Canada. We did a hike along Johnston Canyon, which is very popular and congested in August, but presented lots of scenic views and was a true study of texture in nature. I took about a hundred shots during the hike, and was pleased with how many of them came out.
A few points of advice about visiting Banff. If you get to visit, plan to spend several days rather than several hours. It is simply gorgeous and offers a to do with many hiking trails and lakes and streams for water sports. If possible, don't visit while school is out of session. Yes, that is the time of the year with the best weather, but the traffic is crazy, parking lots are full and the trails are congested.
